A large part of humanity is uncomfortable with autonomy. They'd happily take the watered-down paychecks year after year just to keep living. A lot of individuals work to live and not the other way around. I saw a lot of this in my parents' generation. They left their work at office and never spoke office politics even when they met friends outside work. Work was that which existed in the factory or the office. Our generation thrives on work. We grow it and give it space in our personal lives, sometimes even convincing ourselves that we are not working but building our own brand until we realise that the lines between our hobby and work are almost invisible. Work evolved from a duty to a passion. Today different people want different ways to connect with their passion. The future of employment will still accommodate all these human archetypes.
