Targeting Chinese corporate interests in Africa is a growing trend. In actuality, some of those incidents focused on the Chinese nationals themselves. This includes the 2019 kidnapping of miners in Nigeria and other incidents around the African continent, such as those in Uganda (2018) and other parts of Africa. China doesn't send troops; instead, it collaborates with local police enforcement. Its base is in Djibouti, but more than anything else, it acts as a deterrent—a toy dragon at best.
