The biggest spoiler for the Democrats presently as you rightly pointed out, is the possibility of Biden running for re-election. Biden seemed to be one of the few centrist candidates back in 2020, a major reason he had appeal on both sides. If they don't find a credible replacement it could be open season for the GOP.
