This piece is confusing at best. The author presents evidence indicating AI's role in job losses, but then flips the narrative, presenting reports that contradict this. Until the writer explicitly clarified his position at the end, I remained perplexed. There was overhiring during the pandemic, of course, and now the chicken has come home to roost. The advent of Gen-AI, which arrived just as the pandemic was ending, exacerbates this situation. Even if there is no loss of jobs, unemployment is likely to increase. The global workforce is expanding, and due to the impact of GenAI, fewer and more technical jobs will be required to accommodate the growing headcount. Eventually, the numbers will bear out this truth. I hope by then NVIDIA has enough GPUs for everyone!!
